About The Author The name I go by online is simply “G”. I prefer keeping a low profile when it comes to my writings I publish to the internet. A camera shy blogger, I reside in Virginia and have been traveling up and down the east coast of the united states for many years. I live with three cats and partake in angling, hiking, cooking, and so much more. My life however was not always like this. As a young child, I was a healthy kid who always went outside and socialized with friends. My family life soon became very dysfunctional, to the point where I was afraid to even exit my own room to avoid confrontation. As I had no friends at the time, I latched onto the one thing that I had; the internet. All of my socialization came from being over the internet to the point where it broke my development in half. The amount of damage this did to me is hard to put into words. For a good 15 years of my life, I would say I was what one would consider “chronically online”, or “terminally online”. One day I realized I was addicted to the internet and took it upon myself to change that aspect of myself. I did not like that all of my friends were exclusively made online, and I had no “real life friends” to call my own. As I broke out of the internet-addicted lifestyle, I recognized that so much of what I had grown up with online was simply not a normal experience. There are so many stark contrasts between the real world and what is presented online. I believe this blog serves an important place online, as when I was doing this journey of trying to break the cycle, I had no idea where to go, and my resources were scarce. I had zero guidance and I can fully understand how difficult it is to change your lifestyle without a helping hand. I sought online communities and didn’t gain much from it. The book “Digital Minimalism” by Cal Newport’s greatest flaw is the author himself admitted to never using social media. It lacks personal experience, which is needed for such a complex issue such as internet addiction. My blog is neither politically or religiously motivated (though, I am a Christian man; so I might bring up Jesus here and there), and is intended to share my own experiences and guidance to help you have less dependency towards the being on the internet.
